Jean Grimal renowned French artist, 1942-1997. Oil on canvas still life depicting Chinese porcelain ginger jar and fruit, signed. Exhibition label verso.
Jean Grimal was born in Tulle in 1942 and died in 1997. He received a classical education and showed an outstanding talent for drawing and painting at an early age. He was a prize winner at the annual competitions between Lycees for drawing. Following on from his early successes, he became a Professor of drawing and design.
Jean Grimal started his career as a teacher and an advertising illustrator. He worked with Lise Goldfard for more than 25 years at Studio 44 where they collaborated with major and important accounts, such as: Air France, Christofle, Peugeot, and Lacoste. At the same time he began presenting his formal paintings to galleries in Paris and Cannes, France, and in London and the UK.
He found that his paintings were sought after by major art galleries and collectors throughout Europe. After a number of years of being an important and successful art illustrator he found himself having to choose between the two. Fortunately for collectors he chose to dedicate his life to the classical style of painting. Grimal's genius and skill has earned him the success and respect of collectors world-wide.
He was not a prolific artist and took great pains to choose his subjects with special care. The execution of his meticulous works showed, even to the most untrained eye, the unbounded talents of a fine master.
