Granada Lebrillo serving bowl
Granada Lebrillo serving bowl
7457
A 19th century Granada Lebrillo pottery serving bowl.
Granada lebrillo pottery originates from the long ceramic tradition of Granada, particularly the Fajalauza workshops established in the early 16th century.
Emerging after the Christian conquest, it evolved from earlier Moorish pottery while retaining Islamic techniques such as tin glazing and hand-painted decoration.
Lebrillo bowls were large, practical vessels used for cooking, washing, and domestic tasks. Produced mainly in the Albaicín district, they featured green and blue motifs like pomegranates and birds. Despite industrialisation, the craft has survived through family workshops, preserving over five centuries of continuous artisanal tradition.
