Purchased from New Grafton Gallery London by Philip Bottomley thence by descent.

Mary Fedden (1915-2012) was a British artist known for her vibrant still-life and landscape paintings. Influenced by Modernism, she combined bold colours, strong compositions, and a distinctive, whimsical style. Born in Bristol, she studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and later became the first female tutor in painting at the Royal College of Art, where she taught figures like David Hockney.

Fedden's work often depicted everyday objects, flowers, and interiors with a dreamlike quality. She was married to artist Julian Trevelyan, and their home by the Thames inspired much of her art. Her work remains highly collectible.
