Heavy silver hip flask
6158
A Colen Cheshire heavy silver hip flask with hinged lid and level window. Hallmarked Birmingham 1900.
The history of hip flasks dates back to the 18th century, when they evolved from larger, more cumbersome vessels used to carry spirits. Initially made from glass, ceramics, pewter, or in this case silver and . glass, these flasks became popular for their convenience and portability. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly during Prohibition in the United States, hip flasks gained popularity as a discreet way to carry alcohol.
