An eminently practical French adjustable desk the "Féret Table Hygenique", circa 1889.
A rare adjustable desk by French manufacturer, Feret. The upper part of the walnut desk is adjustable in height between approximately 70 and 140 cm, allowing it to be used sitting down or standing up. The top has the original brass and porcelain inkwell next to the pen tray. Underneath is a single shelf.
The table was exhibited at the the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris alongside a more famous exhibit - the Eiffel Tower.
