Early RNLI Tinplate Lifeboat Collecting Box, c.1920
7796
A wonderfully evocative early Royal National Life-Boat Institution collecting box, circa 1920, made from painted tinplate in the form of a lifeboat. Measuring an impressive 37cm long, the hull retains its original blue, white and red decoration with the inscription "Contributions for the Royal National Life Boat Institution."
Together with a paper packet of paper pin badges for donors. Complete with a recently cut key.
The deck incorporates the original coin slot and locked collection compartment. These distinctive boxes were placed in shops, public houses and other public premises to raise funds for the RNLI.
Beautifully worn from a century of use, with attractive original paint, surface patination and signs of age that only add to its character.
