Compound Monocular Microscope by W Moginie of Ridinghouse St, London to a design for C Baker of High Holborn, circa 1870.

The microscope is a typical Beck design but signed Moginie. It has a large concave mirror on an articulated arm, fine focus with screw adjustment to rear of stage, one objective in a can, eyepiece, and specimen holder.

William Moginie was initially employed by C Baker of High Holborn before becoming a consultant and ultimately a maker of fine microscopes in his own right. He is known to have designed several breakthroughs in microscope technology including a successful traveller's microscope. This particular microscope is a fine example of his work.
