A rare and finely made Lowestoft porcelain bowl, painted in underglaze blue in the Chinese style and dating to circa 1765. This elegant example belongs to the early years of the Lowestoft factory, whose porcelain was admired for its lightness, delicacy, and accomplished interpretation of imported East Asian designs.
The bowl is decorated in cobalt blue with a hand-painted design inspired by Chinese export porcelain. Its restrained palette and softly rendered ornament give it a graceful, timeless quality, while the translucent porcelain body and carefully shaped profile reflect the refinement of early English porcelain manufacture.
