The son of Clive and Vanessa Bell, he grew up within the Bloomsbury Group, deeply influenced by its intellectual and artistic atmosphere.

Bell was also a painter, potter, and professor, teaching at several universities, including Oxford and Sussex. His works explored art, literature, and social history, reflecting his deep engagement with modernism. His writings remain influential in studies of Woolf and Bloomsbury culture.
